I hate to sound redundant or cliché, but wow this place is amazing. We've lived in Provo for a whole year and just now ventured into this restaurant, and boy did it deliver.
Everything we had was flavorful and packed a real punch.
The food is served family style so we ordered a few things to share & still had some leftovers to take home.
We ordered the pork belly starter, the Miso flank steak and the poblano mashed potatoes. Let me tell you, I still dream about those mashed potatoes! The pork belly was crispy and full of flavor, the sauce it's served with is so good I distinctly remember telling my husband if they gave me a bowl of just that sauce I would drink it by itself.
The miso flank steak is cooked to your preference (we did medium well), the miso glaze is sweet & salty and definitely gives the beef that extra kick you didn't know it needed, but now can't live without.
Our waitress was kind and funny, very helpful when explaining the menu to us newbies.
The wine selection is great & they also serve seasonal craft beers by local breweries.
100% adding this place to our regular favorites list. -

A friend and I came here about a half hour before close on a Saturday night. Not crowded and got a table immediately.
Really creative menu. For starters we chose the pork belly and country fried cauliflower, and the pork belly was PHENOMENAL. My favorite dish here by far.
For dinner, we shared the flank steak and also had risotto and broccolini, also well prepared and delicious (the risotto was with farro grain and was excellent).
Great service, great food, great menu. -

When my wife and I were first married (7 years ago) we lived in Provo and decided to treat ourselves one night we somewhat haphazardly decided upon going to Communal (it was election night 2012, of all nights, for some strange reason). It might sound like an exaggeration but it was literally one of the best dining decisions we (or I) have made ever. It still tops the list of the best restaurant experiences I've had.
If I recall correctly we had deviled quail's eggs, a 1/2 chicken, and brown trout. Since it was just the two of us and it's served family style, we just shared with each other between the plates. It was all so good. Each bite was a new experience whether it was the first, tenth, or twentieth- the flavors never got boring or monotonous. Each bite was rich with flavor and allowed new discoveries within the palate expressed by the dish.
Needless to say, if you have the opportunity to dine at Communal, please avail yourself the opportunity, you will not likely be disappointed. -

I can't even begin with this place. It's amazing. Period. Thinking about going? Just go. It was FREAKISHLY good. Like first bite I was "mmmmm" -ing... we had their watermelon arugula salad, pork tenderloin, risotto and chocolate dessert. All of it was a 10/10 and then some. This has taken a top spot in one of my favorite places. Seriously, so good.

You've changed...for the better. When Communal was new it was the it-restaurant, the only thing in its class in a city full of chain restaurants. As the restaurant scene began to improve, Communal started to seem less special to me. To that, add some off-putting waitstaff, and my love for Communal faded. But recently, I went back with a large enough group that we ordered the entire menu and wow! It's love again. Great service and perfectly prepared food that's all quality and no attitude. I don't know what's happened (new chef?) but please keep up the amazing work!
